CHAPTER 25

While it only took Chrys half a day to finish the entire book, it took me an hour longer to get through it, but when we were both done, we reconvened back in the kitchen. She started preparing dinner as Josh and I sat at the kitchen table again.

“I think it is us,” Chrys announced. We both looked up at her.

“I thought you said the kid had to have the same DNA? It confirmed that in the book,” I reminded her.

She nodded as she dipped chicken cutlets into batter and placed them on a plate to prepare to fry. “He does. But, we’re only thirty-one and twenty-eight; we can still have kids. I don’t think he was born yet. The book specifically mentions that even though they keep messing up, they find out earlier and earlier in their lifetimes about him. In the book, they are both in their thirties, so that proves to be accurate with you still being in your twenties,” she explained.

“So why are there two of them?” Josh asked.

“I think we’re both seeing different versions of him. You’re seeing William, and I am seeing Andrew. The book is dedicated to Jayden, and I think they’re all the same boy from different lifetimes. The fact that you’re seeing Elijah leads me to believe that you’re Fiona and I am Ruby. If that is the case and history does repeat itself again, he will be my son this lifetime, based on the assumption the last spell didn’t work either.”

“Has Andrew asked you for anything? If Elijah was my son, that means William was my nephew. Why is he asking me for help and not you?” I asked.

“Well, according to the book, you were the more powerful one. Maybe you’re the only one who could help him,” she shrugged. “Or maybe because you’re the one who gave him his soul. I don’t know. I’m just speculating here.”

“Okay, so if this book was, in fact, written about both of you, then who wrote it?” Josh asked.

“I have no idea, but that’s a good question. Whoever wrote this book may be able to help us if we can figure that part out,” she said.

“We may actually have enough time now if he wasn’t born yet,” I said excitedly.

“Yes, maybe, except you’re bound. We need to get that hex off you first,” Chrys answered.

“We did that spell already. We think it worked,” Josh said. Chrys remained silent as she looked down at the cutlets and started putting them in the frying pan one by one. I looked down at my lap.

Josh straightened himself up and looked from her to me. “What does she mean she doesn’t believe it worked?” he asked me. I shot a look at Chrys, who stared at Josh as if he had just violated her.

“You can’t just go around reading people’s minds!” she said, embarrassed.

“What does she mean it didn’t work?” Josh asked again.

“I had another recollection the other night when we were on the plane,” I said quietly.
